An essential part of gravity filters is the underdrain system. This allows the collection of filtered water and at the same time supplies the washing medium (water, air) during the backwash of the filtration layer. The historically used nozzle interstices are technically outdated (leakage, failure rate, loss of filter material) and are gradually being replaced by underdrain systems without interstices. The Andritz all-stainless underdrain system is designed for gravity filters without the need for a gravel support layer. The system is designed for common filter media such as filter sand, granular activated carbon, anthracite, filtralite, etc. Due to its design, this system is very robust, provides low pressure drop and ensures homogeneous distribution of water and air during backwash of the filter media and drainage of filtered water from the filter. The underdrain system is certified for contact with drinking water according to the current Czech legislation.
