Wastewater as an energy source
The estimated daily production of wastewater worldwide is around 1 515 km3 (one cubic kilometre is one trillion litres). This enormous figure represents a huge opportunity for exploitation, as wastewater has a high energy potential that can be exploited by choosing the appropriate technology - anaerobic treatment.
Our solution
The principle of anaerobic wastewater treatment is the use of anaerobic microorganisms to convert organic pollution in the absence of oxygen into methane and carbon dioxide, so-called biogas. The produced biogas can be further used for heat or electricity production, or it can be further upgraded to biomethane. Compared to conventional processes for the wastewater treatment, anaerobic technology has a privileged position as it is able to produce energy and thus achieve long-term sustainability and profitability of the wastewater plant.
